Not the time to have that moment.

Rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun saw some meaningful snaps last week against the Los Angeles Chargers when Christian Benford went out with a toe injury. Igbinosun showed some signs of potential against the Chargers, and there was a good chance that he was going to be starting in Week 4.

Benford was ruled out against the New England Patriots as he missed practice all week, so Igbinosun got the nod to start opposite of Maxwell Hairston for the Buffalo Bills. Igbinosun didn't look too bad against New England's passing game, but he also wasn't perfect. He managed to have a pass deflection and he was helpful in the run-defense as he finished with 5 total tackles.

However, just like any other rookie, he had his "Welcome to the NFL" moment, but it came at the worst time possible.

Davison Igbinosun gave up game-winning touchdown to Efton Chism III

The Bills were up 26-21 with less than two minutes left in the 4th quarter, and Drake Maye rolled out to the right to launch it 23 yards to wideout Efton Chism III for what would eventually be the game-winning touchdown. Chism didn't just score, he caught it over Igbinosun one-handed going all the way down.

It’s one thing to lose, it’s another thing to have the play that defined the loss be a huge catch over a corner that has played very well in man-to-man coverage. Igbinosun had good coverage on Chism, but Maye placed the ball right exactly where it needed to be and Chism made a big time highlight.

Now, Igbinosun has to live with that highlight for the rest of the season and find a way to put it behind him.

Davison Igbinosun's bad moment ultimately costs Bills' undefeated record

Now granted, this lose is not solely on Igbinosun. Not even close. The defense as a whole was terrible, and Maxwell Hairston was the worst corner out on the field for the Bills. With Buffalo's offense, Josh Allen couldn't get anything going in rhythm and the unit put a lot of pressure on the defense.

At the same time, we can't ignore that this was the play that decided who won and who lost. Buffalo unfortunately came out unlucky and Igbinosun will be part of that play for the wrong reason.

It will be up to Igbinosun to overcome this play and find a way to grow from it. Everyone makes mistakes, and it was his first career start in the pros. I still believe that he can become a true lockdown corner as time goes on. However, we will find out as we progress throughout the season.
