The AFC East still runs through the Buffalo Bills, but after Week 4, the gap has closed a little bit. Heading into this week, the Bills had entered a situation where they could have really separated themselves from the rest of the division. Clearly, for anyone that watched Buffalo’s game against New England, that wasn’t the case.

We are now entering the second quarter of the season, and the only team with momentum going into Week 5 is the New England Patriots. With that, we have the updated AFC East standings.

Updated AFC East standings after Week 4

1.) Buffalo Bills (3-1)
Lost to New England Patriots, 29-26

The Bills have officially fallen as they lost in front of Bills Mafia to the New England Patriots. It was the first divisional matchup for both of these teams. On paper, the Bills should have easily won this game with no issue. Instead, they let Drake Maye throw up-and-down on them, and the Patriots' rushing attack looked unstoppable.

The Patriots out gained the Bills in total yards (405 yards vs. 340 yards), 1st-downs, 4th-downs, time of possession, and red zone efficiency. All in all, the Bills didn't deserve to win this game. But to lose to the Patriots of all teams just hurts a little bit more.

2.) New England Patriots (2-2)
Def. Buffalo Bills, 29-26

The Patriots have started to close the gap on the Bills in the division. Instead of going down three games in the division, they are just one game behind Buffalo and now hold the tiebreaker.

This is exactly the same setup as it was last season where the Patriots beat the Bills in Orchard Park to gain momentum in the AFC East. Then the following week, the Pats won and the Bills lost, and the AFC East went to New England for the rest of the season. They have officially put the Bills on notice, making this a two-team race in the division.

3.) New York Jets (1-3)
Lost to Chicago Bears, 23-12

The Jets have been competitive in all of their games this season, up until they ran into the Chicago Bears. It wasn't even close as the Bears out gained the Jets in total yards (492 yards vs. 157 yards). This is the Jets team that we are used to seeing where they don't stand a chance. Even though they got their first interception in the Aaron Glenn era, it didn't matter because the Bears took care of business with no problem.

4.) Miami Dolphins (0-4)
Lost to Minnesota Vikings, 15-10

The Dolphins remain one of the last winless teams through the first four weeks. There were a lot of people who had thought that the Vikings were going to roll all over Miami, but the Dolphins were in it until the end. This game was actually their best showing, which proves that they are making progress under Jeff Hafley.

The Dolphins only lost 15-10, and it took the Vikings until late in the 4th quarter to close it out. Still, the Dolphins fall to 0-4 on the year.
