The Buffalo Bills knew that the top priority for this team in the 2026 NFL offseason was to get Josh Allen the wide receiver help he has lacked for the last few years, and they didn't wait long to officially swing a trade for Chicago Bears standout DJ Moore.
Joe Brady and Brandon Beane swung a trade for Moore, as a mid-round NFL Draft pick will reportedly be heading back to Chicago. After a down season in 2025, the Bears decided to ditch the expensive Moore and helped him land on a team that can fulfill his goal of chasing a championship.
Moore wanted a chance to be an unquestioned No. 1 target, and with the Bills in need of pass-catching help as desperately as any contending team in the league, the trade seems like a match made in heaven for both player and team alike.
Bills acquire DJ Moore from Bears in exchange for mid-round NFL Draft pick
Moore looked destined to be the No. 1 wide receiver the Bears have been eyeing for years, as his 1,000-yard seasons in Carolina managed to transfer over to Chicago despite poor quarterback play. 2025 was less productive for him, as he failed to even hit 700 yards receiving.
When the Bears drafted a player with a similar style of play in Luther Burden III, the writing may have been on the wall. Moore will get a chance to reunite with Brady, who coached him during his tenure as offensive coordinator with the Panthers. Moore is an immediate upgrade over Keon Coleman.
Even though Caleb Williams has proven to be a tremendous young quarterback, he is not in the same tier of passer as Allen. Moore should be in for a bounce-back season due to both a better scheme fit and a much heavier diet of targets.
Moore as the undisputed No. 1 receiver may not be ideal, and there are some concerns about his style of play being similar to that of Khalil Shakir, but he is also the best wideout this team has had in years, and only giving up a mid-round pick to acquire him is excellent asset management.
