We are at the point of the NFL season where contenders will look to add help via trade while sellers are looking to gain any kind of value back if they feel that their 2026 season is a loss.

The Indianapolis Colts are the first team to start the trend as they dealt two of their best players in Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner both to the NFC West. Nelson heads to Seattle and Buckner is heading back to San Francisco. The Bills should be looking to make a deal with the Colts to help their secondary, but we will see just how much the Bills believe in their current players on the roster.

Now, the Colts dealing players like Nelson and Buckner don't have any immediate or direct impact on the Bills. The only way Buffalo could face either Seattle or San Francisco is if they meet either one of them in the Super Bowl this season.

Colts making key trades set up to affect Bills (not in a great way)

With the Colts clearly going into a rebuild with the roster, and them potentially looking for a new general manager after firing Chris Ballard, it makes sense for the organization to break everything down and start over.

However, it's important to note that the Colts don't have a first-round pick in 2027 since they traded it to...the New York Jets a deal for CB Sauce Gardner in the middle of last season.

Bills could see Jets heavily benefitting from Colts' teardown

It's one thing to send the talent away for future draft capital. It's another thing to do it without having a first-round pick the following year. As of right now, the Colts' failures this season is the Jets' success and the Bills could see the Jets have an extremely high pick in 2027 because of the Colts going down hill.

Next year's quarterback class could be either really good or really bad. No one knows at this point and we won't know until we know exactly who will be declaring for the 2027 NFL Draft. What we do know is that the Jets have a GM in Darren Mougey who is slowly building up this Jets team for the better and if he gets the chance at a high quarterback prospect because of them having the Colts' first rounder, that should concern Bills fans.

Now granted, the Jets have failed over and over and over again at developing a franchise quarterback for many years. However, it feels like Aaron Glenn could be on his way out after yet another bad start in Year 2 of his tenure and the Jets could easily make some changes to start turning their franchise around.

It would be quite the story for the Bills to see one of their division rivals make a turnaround because of another team's failures. Depending on how the Colts' 2026 season ends, we may be looking at a story that includes the Jets building up their team for the future all because the Colts decided to trade 2 first-round picks for a cornerback. Absolutely unreal.
