The defense for the Buffalo Bills came to play against the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday, and now Bills fans are celebrating a huge Week 9 win going into Miami next week. While the team needed a bit of a statement win (against a proven team), the defense truly needed to show that they can compete at a high level. That they did and fans should be strongly encouraged.

There are many players that could be highlighted, but there is one young player that really deserved a lot of credit for his play, and that is safety Cole Bishop who has a bit of a rough start to his career.

Drafted last year in the second round, Bishop has faced injuries and has been criticized for his performance at times. In the last couple of games, Bishop has stepped up a bit, but this time against the Chiefs, he had himself a big day.

Bishop not only led the Bills in total tackles (7), but he also had 4 pass breakups in the game which shows just how all over the field he was. What a game to put it all together and have his best performance of his career so far.

Sean McDermott delivers high praise for Cole Bishop's performance

According to Alex Brasky, Sean McDermott talked with the media after the game and McDermott gave his safety well-deserved praise on his play against the Chiefs. McDermott said “you could sense his speed and he was popping people out there.”

If Bishop wasn’t breaking up a pass, he was delivering hard hits including one on tight end Travis Kelce in the endzone that broke up a pass at the end of the first half.

This is the type of game that Bills fans were hoping to see out of Bishop after a rocky start to his tenure with the Bills. Given the fact that Taylor Rapp is most likely out for the rest of the season and Damar Hamlin still on IR, this is now Bishop’s time to truly step up and show the Bills what he’s made of. Let’s hope he can continue this next week when the Bills travel to Miami.
