We are heading into Week 3 where the Buffalo Bills are back at home to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. While the Bills are feeling great starting out at 2-0 with their high-powered offense, the Chargers have surprisingly dropped to 0-2, but it’s not the fact that they have lost; it’s who they have lost to.
The Chargers have been at home the last two games, but they have lost to the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, with both final scores being 26-14. Their new offense under Mike McDaniel looks very rough as Justin Herbert has 2 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. The offensive line looks terrible once again, and outside of Ladd McConkey, there is no true go-to weapon for Herbert.
Not only did the Chargers lose again in embarrassing fashion, but they have now lost two tight ends going into Week 3. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chargers are placing tight ends David Njoku and Charlie Kolar on the IR which will cause them to miss the next four games, which obviously includes this coming week against the Bills.
Chargers' offense takes even more of a hit going into Week 3 game vs. Bills
Los Angeles' offense already looks extremely bad through the first two games. Now, they are down two tight ends both of whom provide a different skillset. Njoku is more of a receiving tight end that can move at great speed in the middle of the field. He was one of the few bright spots for the Cleveland Browns for the last 9 seasons.
As for Kolar, he is known for being a solid blocking tight end but he could also be used down the field in passing situations. Kolar joined the Chargers this past offseason after spending the last four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
With both of them being placed on the IR, the Chargers are down even more offensive help which should give the Bills' defense a little bit of a boost.
Bills still can't take Chargers lightly despite offensive troubles
First off, the Chargers still have Oronde Gadsden who is an under-the-radar player that has a lot of potential. Just last season, he had 664 yards and 3 scores as a rookie which is a great start for him. Now with Njoku and Kolar missing time, Gadsden should be getting more opportunities coming his way including against the Bills.
Buffalo's defense has been going through growing pains the last two games, but they get a favorable matchup against a bad Chargers offense. However, even though their offense looks terrible right now, and now they lost a lot of depth in one position, the Bills will still have to bring their A-game because this has the making of a potential trap game.
