The NFL gave the Buffalo Bills a tough matchup right from the start in the 2026 season. Not only are they away from home, but they will be traveling down to Houston to take on a Texans team that has had the Bills’ number for quite some time.

The Bills just simply don’t do well in Houston, and it showed once again last season when the Houston defense took over the game and made life miserable for Josh Allen. He was sacked 8 times and quite frankly, the score should not have been as close as it was.

While Houston’ defense is elite, there has been a ton of criticism about their quarterback in C.J. Stroud. After a fantastic rookie season back in 2023, Stroud has regressed. He’s gone down in passing yards and touchdowns each season, and his playoff performance against the Patriots last season was absolutely atrocious.

Going into a crucial year part of his rookie contract, Stroud is going to have to show Houston that he can be the franchise moving forward and cash in on the quarterback market. With the Texans revamping their offensive line and returning a majority of their defense, the Texans once again will be a huge threat to Buffalo. However, how will Stroud respond?

Bills could be in great danger against Texans if C.J. Stroud prediction happens early on

Ed Edholm from NFL.com talked about five different players who could change narratives about themselves in 2026. One of them listed was Stroud, in which Edholm is predicting that Stroud “will shed bust-like label and re-emerge as top-10 QB”.

"This is very much a make-or-break season for Stroud, and he might have to wait for his contract extension, but perhaps that's the best result. Stroud can dial in this season and put to bed the notion of the ghost-seeing that appeared in last season's playoffs. He has the team with which to do it, and don't forget: The guy won't turn 25 years old until Week 4. Let's give Stroud another chance to prove himself with what appears to be his best team yet." said Edholm.

Stroud knows that the pressure is there, and it’s up to him to respond well. With the Bills coming to Houston in Week 1, they will have the chance to either keep the narrative about how Stroud is not a true franchise quarterback…but they also have the risk of being the first opponent that Stroud could very well embarrass the Bills if he responds to the pressure well.

With the Bills revamping their defense, fans are wondering how they will come out of the gate and Stroud will be their first test. The Bills can either come out of Week 1 looking great, or they could be the first team on Stroud’s path that gets embarrassed by him and the Texans.
