We are just four days away from seeing the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans take the field to face each to start the 2026 season. It feels like yesterday we were just watching the Super Bowl, and now the season will start tonight in Seattle. Then this Sunday, Bills fans will be watching Buffalo take the field down in Houston for an AFC battle against a team that embarrassed them last season.
The Bills are coming into this game with a new identity (especially on defense) and there is a mixture of excitement and nervousness amongst Bills Mafia. It doesn't help that the Bills are starting off their season against a team that they don't matchup well against either.
After last season's matchup where the Texans' defense completely took over the game, the Bills are looking to correct those mistakes and leave the state of Texas with a 1-0 record.
Over the course of history, the Bills and Texans have had players that have played for both organizations. Even currently, the each team has players that has played for the other team at some point in their career.
Bills set to face former player that they let go too early
This past offseason, the Texans added a quality veteran that a lot of Bills fans may have been hoping that Brandon Beane could have brought back to Buffalo. Offensive lineman Wyatt Teller signed a two-year deal with the Texans to improve their unit.
Teller was drafted by the Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft, playing just one season with the Bills before being traded to go down just the road to the Cleveland Browns where he became a cornerstone player for the franchise for 7 seasons.
He played a huge role in the Browns having one of the best rushing attacks in football and he was a fantastic guard. He may not be at the level he once was, but he is still a great player and the Texans adding him will help their rushing attack. His first game as a Texan will come against a team that didn't believe in him, and he made the Bills pay the price for trading him.
Wyatt Teller isn't the only former Bill on the Texans
In addition to Teller, cornerback Ja'Marcus Ingram is a member of the Texans. When the Bills decided to claim Darius Slay last season when he and the Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways, the Bills had made the choice to waive Ingram to make room for Slay. However, not only did Slay not report to Buffalo, Ingram was claimed by the Texans.
So, the Bills lost out on two cornerbacks for absolutely no reason which caused a gigantic headache amongst the fanbase.
Even though Ingram is on the Texans, he will not be active as he was placed on injured-reserve, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, and he will miss the first four games of the season.
As for the former Texans that are now members of the Bills, backup quarterback Kyle Allen was with the Texans in 2022 prior to signing with the Bills in 2023. He played in just two games, throwing 2 touchdowns to 4 interceptions.
Then you have safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson who was with the Texans last season, but only played in 3 games before being released by the Texans. Gardner-Johnson was not afraid to speak his thoughts about the situation that happened with the Texans earlier this summer, and now he gets a chance at his old team.
