Bringing in Bradley Chubb in free agency was the biggest move that the Buffalo Bills made that didn’t require a trade. While the acquisition of DJ Moore via trade with the Chicago Bears was Buffalo’s biggest roster move, the signing of Chubb was the Bills’ biggest free agency splash.

Chubb had been in the AFC East since 2022, when he was traded to the Miami Dolphins from the Denver Broncos, so he was used to play against the Bills. Not too long after he was released by the Dolphins, the Bills signed him to a three-year deal to help out Buffalo’s pass rush.

Chubb is Buffalo’s third most notable veteran edge rusher that has been brought in. First was Von Miller in 2022, Joey Bosa in 2025, and now Chubb is the next one up. While Chubb joins an immediate contender, he is joining a team that is going through some changes on the coaching staff.

With Jim Leonhard coming in as the new defensive coordinator, Chubb will be one of the leaders who can help turn around this defense that has been the biggest issue the team has had.

Bradley Chubb's latest comments have fans even more fired up for Jim Leonhard

Chubb recently spoke with Eric Wood on the Centered on Buffalo podcast, and Wood asked Chubb about his “initial impressions” about Leonhard and what it’s been like working with him up to this point:

My initial impression, man, he’s like a mad scientist. He just always stays the same throughout the whole time…” said Chubb.

"It's just really dope to see how the defense is involved, and everybody kinda runs the same things, but how a coach puts a spin on it. Coming into my rookie year, I had Vance Joseph as my head coach/defensive coordinator. So, Jim Leonhard coming from that tree, seeing the parallels from Year 1 to Year 9." Chubb added.

Earlier in the summer, Chubb had called Leonhard “a quiet assassin” per Jenna Cottrell, and now he is following up with saying how focused Leonhard is and how smart he is with the players. This has to get fans feeling even more excited about what the defense will look like under Leonhard.

The defense has been the team’s biggest liability in crucial moments under Sean McDermott, especially in the playoffs. Now that there is a big change, all eyes will be on this unit and fans are hoping that Leonhard can be the difference-maker for the better.
