Since the 2020 season, the Buffalo Bills have gotten close to making the Super Bowl but have fallen short in every single postseason. They’ve made it as far as the AFC title game, and have made it past the Wild Card round. They get so close, yet it’s been the same result which has put the Bills fans in a stage of heartbreak each January.
Buffalo has lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs four times, once to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, and Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. Mahomes and Burrow are in the same tier as Allen, so it’s not too surprising to see them eliminate the Bills. However, the Bills losing to Nix and the Broncos was the final straw on Sean McDermott’s coaching career in Buffalo.
Despite all of the changes that the Bills went through this past offseason, the expectations haven’t. The Bills are still Super Bowl contenders as long as Josh Allen is playing at a high rate. Sometimes change is good, and that’s what the Bills needed after falling short in the playoffs once again under McDermott.
At the same time, change doesn't always deliver the promise that has been built up, and a Jarrett Bailey from SB Nation put together a list of 61 bold predictions for the upcoming season which includes the Bills going through another postseason nightmare.
Bills fans see repeating nightmare come to life in recent bold prediction
One of Bailey’s bold predictions is the Bills making the AFC championship game, but then losing it to Joe Burrow and the Bengals, which would make Allen 0-2 against the Bengals in the postseason.
"I’ve picked the Bills get to the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons, so maybe if I don’t pick them, they’ll actually do it. Allen and Burrow go blow-for-blow, with a Ja’Marr Chase touchdown being what seals the Bengals’ 35-30 win over Buffalo." said Bailey.
Now granted, that is assuming that Burrow can stay healthy all year long, and the Bengals’ defense doesn’t fall apart down the stretch. Even with the trade for Dexter Lawrence, Cincinnati’s defense is still average until they prove it otherwise.
Nonetheless, the Bengals certainly have given the Bills problems since Burrow was drafted. The most notable loss that the Bills have against the Bengals was back in the 2022/2023 Divisional Round where Cincinnati completely destroyed the Bills in Orchard Park. While Buffalo did beat the Bengals last year, it took back-to-back interceptions for the Bills to finally get out of the deficit that they were in.
If this scenario were to play out, it would just continue the heartbreak that Bills Mafia has been experiencing. Not to mention, it would be to a quarterback that has already proven that he can beat the Bills in the playoffs.
