Bills' X-factor could become a nightmare for defenses (but there's one catch)

Availability is the best ability.

They say that sometimes the best ability is availability. We have seen players in sports history, no matter what sport it is, have so much talent but were not available for various reasons. One major reason is due to not being able to stay healthy. Injuries are part of the game, and it’s extremely rare to see a player stay healthy on a consistent basis.

The Buffalo Bills have someone on their roster who is very talented, but injuries have been part of their journey and that is tight end Dalton Kincaid. Buffalo traded up for him in the 2023 NFL Draft with hopes that he could be a great asset to the offense. While he has shown flashes, injuries have affected him the last two seasons.

Dalton Kincaid has been held back last two seasons

Kincaid has been dealing with a knee injury since the middle of the 2024 season and it traveled into last season as well. Kincaid has missed atleast four games each of the last two seasons, which hurts the offense's productivity. The good news is that it seems like Kincaid is set up for a big season in 2026, and the Bills will definitely need him.

Ben Solak from ESPN listed Kincaid as the Bills' X-factor this season, which is very realistic, but it all depends on whether or not Kincaid can stay healthy.

"In 2024, Kincaid suffered a PCL injury to his left knee that never fully recovered. In 2025, he dealt with knee and hamstring issues throughout the season, and Kincaid has said he played on a limited number of snaps even when he was available. He played 368 snaps last season and averaged about 37% of the snaps in the games he played -- both the total and rate were well below that of fellow tight ends Dawson Knox and rookie Jackson Hawes." said Solak.

"Even across two injury-riddled seasons, Kincaid leads all tight ends in targets per route (27.8%) and is second only to George Kittle in yards per route (2.26)." Solak added.

2026 season can be big season for Dalton Kincaid (if he stays healthy)

One of the major storylines involving the Bills this offseason was their acquisition of DJ Moore. Bringing him in gives the Bills a true No. 1 receiver and the offense should be more dynamic. He is a perfect fit for Joe Brady's offense.

At the same time, Moore's presence should allow for someone like Kincaid to take on true one-on-one coverage, giving Kincaid an advantage against defenders. We have already seen glimpses of Kincaid making some solid plays. Now if he can stay healthy with a new-look offense coming, fans may look back on this upcoming season and reflect on how much Kincaid meant to the offense.
