The Buffalo Bills shocked the NFL world by choosing to go with Joe Brady as the franchise's next head coach. It was a move that that was surprising, but not also surprising at the same time. Brady has been with the Bills for some time now and has been the team's offensive coordinator since the middle of the 2023 season.

Buffalo now has to get to work on building up the coaching staff under Brady, and one of the biggest priorities is getting someone who can work on building up the defense as it was Buffalo’s biggest liability. The Bills may have the chance to land a rising coach to fix that problem.

According to Adam Schefter, Broncos’ defensive pass coordinator Jim Leonhard “is expected to be a leading candidate to become the next defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.”

Bills can hit a home run hire with Jim Leonhard from Broncos

For those who may not know, Leonhard was a player for the Bills from 2005-2007, and then again in 2013. After his playing days ended, Leonhard got into coaching at Wisconsin and Illinois, before joining the Broncos as their defensive backs coach & pass game coordinator. This past season, he became an assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator.

He has been a key factor in helping Denver establish themselves as one of the best defensive units in the league. With how bad Buffalo’s defense was this past season, adding Leonhard to the mix under Brady would be a dynamite addition.

The Bills already had one of the better pass defenses in the league, so Leonhard would then be able to clean up the run-defense and bring his scheme to the team. The offense for the Bills is not the main issue. Buffalo just couldn’t stop anyone.

With the Bills officially going into the Joe Brady era, they have to get someone who can fix this defense and Leonhard is a very strong candidate.
