There will be no undefeated season for the Buffalo Bills as they dropped their first game of the season, at home, under the bright lights, to the New England Patriots. Even though the Bills remain at the top of the AFC East, the Patriots are right behind them and now have the tiebreaker on them.

Buffalo looked horrible in this game and quite frankly, they were lucky to only lose by three in the final seconds of the game. New England showed up and looked like the better team from start to finish. The Bills have a ton to correct going into next week’s game on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

While fans will be mad and annoyed with the Bills losing and figuring out who to put the blame on, there is one factor that is being overlooked when it’s very obvious. The Patriots are on the rise and are coming back for control of the AFC East.

Bills fans should be worried about Patriots' quick turnaround

Remember those two decades where the Patriots were always at the top of the AFC East? Well, don’t think that they won’t be looking to seriously challenge the Bills for the division. From 2020-2024, the Bills have had control of the division but they always struggled with New England just a bit. However, the Patriots have a great thing going for them and with Drake Maye looking more and more like a franchise quarterback, this team could become very scary in the future.

Again, it’s one game and the Patriots won with less than a minute in the game. However, we have to consider the fact that this was Maye’s first primetime game of his NFL career and he looked way better than Josh Allen. Mike Vrabel is a solid coach who has created a winning culture in New England so far. Not to mention, the Patriots still play hard defense just like they did in the Bill Belichick era.

This game could easily be looked at as a quick gut punch to the Bills, but it could also be a warning of what’s to come in the AFC East. If the Patriots can keep growing, the Bills will have some serious competition for the division moving forward.
