In just two days, the Buffalo Bills will be taking the field at St. John Fisher University for the start of training camp. After a long offseason, we will finally get to see what this team could do in the 2025 season and whether or not they could really get over the top in the playoffs. Now granted, we won’t know how they will look until the games count but training camp will give us a lot of info (both good and bad).

There will be a great amount of storylines that Bills fans will follow along with including the James Cook contract drama, whether or not Keon Coleman will take a big step forward in Year 2, or how a newly revamped defense will look early on. However, there is always a player that typically shines when fans least expect it.

Whether they are well-known or not by the fanbase, this particular player tends to outperform expectations and take a bit of the recognition from fans and reporters. That player this training camp for the Bills could very well be running back Ray Davis.

RB Ray Davis has great chance to dominate Bills training camp

With a lot of attention on James Cook and his contract situation, this training camp is a perfect opportunity for Davis to show the Bills that he can easily become Buffalo’s RB1 in 2026. I don’t see a scenario where he takes away carries from Cook this coming season, but if Davis can show the coaching staff that he can be the main back in this committee for next year, it could very well hurt Cook’s chances of getting a contract extension.

In his rookie season last year, Davis rushed for 442 yards and 3 touchdowns, but he also had 189 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. He is a better pass blocker than Cook and is only going into the second year of his rookie contract. After a solid rookie season, he will have a great chance to improve on it and maybe even become a great hidden secret to the entire NFL.
