The Buffalo Bills have jumped into the trade market before free agency officially opens. Adam Schefter reported that the Bills and the Chicago Bears are finalizing a trade that would bring wide receiver DJ Moore to the Bills. Buffalo agreed to trade their 2nd-round pick in exchange for Moore and a 2025 5th-round pick.
Moore comes to Buffalo with eight NFL years of experience, with both the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears. Drafted in 2018, Moore has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in four out of his eight seasons with a majority of them being in Carolina. The only time where he didn’t get over 100+ targets was his first year and this past season with the Bears.
Some people may believe that Moore is not a true No. 1 wideout, but he is an immediate upgrade for the Bills and Josh Allen. Wide receiver has been a major issue for the Bills the last two seasons, and now the acquisition of Moore atleast brings some stability. Another factor to remember with Moore, is that he hasn’t missed a regular season game since 2021.
There are many different ways to look at this trade between the Bills and Bears, but there is one major reason why Bills fans should be excited for this trade.
Bills fans will now see Joe Brady and DJ Moore re-unite from Carolina days
In 2020, Brady was hired by the Panthers as their offensive coordinator when Moore was there. Under Brady, Moore had back-to-back 1,100+ receiving yard seasons that included 8 touchdowns through the air.Â
With Brady now the head coach in Buffalo, he will get a receiver that knows and was able to put in a great position to succeed. It is very possible that the Bills could have Moore as their number one receiver in 2026, and that’s okay.
Sure, Moore isn’t a consistently dominant receiver but he’s no pushover either. When you look at what Moore has been able to do with either an unstable quarterback situation or being in an offense that had a ton of playmakers, he still made an impact.
And again, his durability is beyond impressive. The Bills seem to always battle an injury bug and having Moore staying healthy will be the key to this trade.
That 2nd-round pick may be a big price that Bills fans didn’t want Buffalo to pay, but the Bills are now in a better spot on offense than they were yesterday. It’s as simple as that. In order to improve, you have to pay.
