The start of the NFL Draft is just two days and we couldn’t be more excited to see where prospects will start their professional careers. Players coming into this year’s draft will get to live out a life-long dream of being drafted ad will be coming into the NFL to compete in the fall. Fans enjoy the draft as it’s a major step forward towards the start of the season. The only major problem is that once the draft is over, we enter a a drought of waiting for training camp to begin in August.

The Buffalo Bills are heading into this draft with ten picks to use. They could either deliver a big rookie draft class, or use some of those picks in a trade package to move and acquire a talented prospects. Their defense still needs some building up, especially in the secondary and a little on the defensive line. They should also be looking to add some extra depth at various positions such as linebacker, wide receiver, and maybe even upfront on the offensive line.

We have seen countless mock drafts involving the Bills going heavy on defense, especially in the first round. Players like DT Kenneth Grant, DT Walter Nolen, and CB Trey Amos are names to watch for the Bills at No. 30 overall. However, don’t be surprised if the Bills also look to trade up into the mid-20s if there is a player that is falling that Buffalo might be interested in.

However, the last thing Bills fans need is to see Buffalo trade up for a player that is a bit of a reach or even a player that isn’t a huge need for the team. In 2022, the Bills traded up for CB Kaiir Elam and now he is off the team after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys. There’s no need to go into why he didn’t work because Bills fans already know why.

In a recent mock draft by NFL Draft analyst Chad Reuter, the Bills make a repeat in history by trading up six spots with the Minnesota Vikings to select Marshall edge rusher Mike Green. To move up six spots, the Bills trade away both of their fourth-round picks in addition to No. 30 overall.

"Buffalo has already invested in the pass rush this offseason, signing Joey Bosa and Mike Hoecht and extending Gregory Rousseau. Then again, Bosa has a history of injury issues, Hoecht is facing a suspension for the season's first six games, A.J. Epenesa is entering a contract year and the Bills still have not found a hybrid player to replace Von Miller -- a vacancy that fits Green's game. Minnesota receives two fourth-round picks from the Bills in the deal, which is ideal for the Vikings, since they otherwise have just four selections due to past trades."

DE Mike Green is not the prospect Bills should be trading up for

Mike Green is a solid player and he’s definitely a first round prospect for sure, but the Bills don’t need to go with an edge rusher in the first round, let alone trade up for one. Even though the Bills may want to address getting an edge rusher due to the fact that A.J. Epenesa and Joey Bosa are heading into a contract year, there’s no need to trade up for an edge rusher in the first round.

Now, if Green is available at No. 30 and the top three defensive tackles (Derrick Harmon, Walter Nolen, and Kenneth Grant) are off the board, along with cornerbacks like Trey Amos Shavon Revel, then maybe I can get behind the idea of getting Green because there is a lot of value with him late in the first. He is coming off of a 17-sack season in 2024 (only having three games where he didn’t record a sack). There is something to be said for that.

However, trading up for him and giving up two Day 3 picks would not be a smart move by the Bills.
