Bills suggested to trade for overlooked CB to improve secondary (and they need to)

If Week 1 taught us two things about the Buffalo Bills, it’s that Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the league, and the defense needs to improve quickly from a pathetic performance. The Bills are 1-0 heading into their Week 2 game against the New York Jets and the defense needs to step up big time.

Buffalo’s defense couldn’t stop the run and they struggled against the pass against the Ravens. Now granted, Baltimore has a tough offense but it was just plain out ridiculous how much they were able to punish Buffalo. Had it not been for a little bit of luck in the 4th quarter, the Bills would be 0-1.

It’s a new week and a chance for Buffalo to improve defensively. However, it would not be a bad idea for the Bills to explore the idea of making a trade to improve an aspect of their defense sooner than later.

Bills listed as landing spot for overlooked AFC cornerback

Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report suggested that the Bills could be an ideal landing spot for Cleveland Browns’ cornerback Greg Newsome. Seeing that Cleveland is a team that fans could expect to be in the top ten of next year’s NFL Draft, the Browns could explore the idea of acquiring draft capital.

Here's a bit on what Knox said about Newsome:

"The 25-year-old is on the fifth-year option, though, and could become a strong trade candidate if the Browns' season quickly spirals out of control. If that happens, there's a good chance Cleveland will chase a quarterback in the 2026 draft and could use all the extra draft capital it can get.
Given Newsome's combination of age, positional value and great recent play, the Browns could expect a quality Day 2 pick in return—that's the price Cleveland got for wideout Amari Cooper at last year's trade deadline."
Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report

Newsome was solid in Cleveland’s first game against Cincinnati but if Cleveland continues to lose, they should be a seller team and gain draft picks. If Newsome does become available, the Bills should strongly consider trading for him to bring in some depth in the secondary.

It seems like the Bills are always facing challenges in the secondary and with their championship window being wide open, why not improve via trade? Max Hairston and Tre’Davious White have been dealing with injuries since the summer, and Hairston won’t be back until atleast Week 5.

Newsome has been up-and-down in his career, but he still provides value. For a Day 2 or Day 3 pick, the Bills would be silly not to explore this option.
