It’s been over a week since the NFL’s legal tampering period opened up and while the Buffalo Bills weren’t active right from the start, they have certainly made some strong additions on the defense that fans are noticing.

When the Bills made the shocking move to fire Sean McDermott, it opened up all the doors on what route the Bills could take. With them looking for a new head coach, that meant a new coaching staff was coming into play. Eventually, they promoted Joe Brady to head coach and he brought in a new coaching staff which included the hiring of Jim Leonhard on defense.

The hiring of Leonhard meant that the Bills were going in a different direction on defense and they needed to add players that would fit the scheme. Up to this point, the Bills have brought in solid defensive additions and they have also brought in a true No. 1 receiver in D.J. Moore. In addition, they also re-signed Connor McGovern to anchor the offensive line.

While the roster still needs some work, the first wave of free agency has caught the attention of Moe Moton from Bleacher Report, who created a list of the ten best rosters after the early parts of free agency and Moton put the Bills at No. 3 only behind the Broncos and Rams.

"Buffalo signed edge-rusher Bradley Chubb, versatile defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson and safety Geno Stone. All three will likely take on big roles on the defensive side of the ball. The Bills have suffered playoff heartbreak year after year, but their loaded rosters are the reason they've been Super Bowl contenders. Chubb, Gardner-Johnson and Stone could help them find a breakthrough." said Moton.

Bills get high praise for improving roster after early free agency

The Bills took a lot of heat when Sean McDermott was fired because a lot of people thought that Beane should have also gone out the door too because of the roster construction. He not only stayed, but he got promoted to President of Football Operations. The pressure is on for him and so far, he has done a solid job at bringing in free agent talent.

However, he still has to bring in more help through free agency and he needs to draft a solid rookie class. They gained a 6th-round pick as part of the Taron Johnson trade, but they shipped off a 2nd-round pick to acquire D.J. Moore. Beane will be closely watched as the offseason progresses.
