Since the opening of the NFL’s legal tampering period, the Buffalo Bills have made a handful of moves in both free agency and in the trade market. Prior to the legal tampering period, they agreed to a trade that would have them acquiring D.J. Moore from the Bears and that trade was officially processed on Wednesday at 4PM EST.

The Bills have also brought in defensive help to start the revamp of Jim Leonhard’s new defense. Buffalo signed defensive backs Dee Alford, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Geno Stone. They also made their big free agent splash by signing linebacker/pass rusher Bradley Chubb. Buffalo also re-signed Connor McGovern to a four-year deal to keep the anchor of the offensive line.

While Buffalo could add some pieces on offense, the first wave of free agency tells us who the Bills should be pursuing next to add to the defense. That player is linebacker Logan Wilson, who was teammates with Josh Allen at Wyoming.

Bills next free agency move should be bringing in LB Logan Wilson

Wilson started his career with the Cincinnati Bengals as a third-round pick out of Wyoming and he recorded 100+ total tackles in five out of seven seasons there. He can stuff the run and he’s got the ability to drop back into coverage as well.

Last season, the Bengals decided to go with their young linebackers in the middle of the defense which eventually led to Wilson being traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Wilson was a name that was being coveted at the trade deadline last season, and the Bills would have benefited from adding him but he went to Dallas in the end.

Wilson played in just seven games with Dallas but still managed to get 24 total tackles in his short tenure there. The Cowboys ended up releasing Wilson, making him a free agent and the Bills make a ton of sense for Wilson.

Buffalo needs to add more linebacker help with Matt Milano and Shaq Thompson being free agents and Dorian Williams is more of a rotational player in the defense. Wilson is coming off a bit of a down season compared to what he has done, and the Bills are notorious for bringing in players on a prove-it deal.

It’s already happened with C.J. Gardner-Johnson and it happened last offseason with Joey Bosa. Wilson is the perfect candidate to gain a prove-it deal with Buffalo, and the Bills should be hoping that they land him to add to Leonhard’s defense.
