In case you didn’t know by now, the Buffalo Bills are pinned as a team that has a huge need at wide receiver. For the past two seasons, they have been missing out on a consistent dynamic playmaker. While Khalil Shakir is solid and Brandin Cooks showed up late in the season in 2025, Josh Allen deserves more.
Now it’s up to Brandon Beane and Joe Brady to identify a wide receiver that can be brought in and immediately be the No. 1 receiver in this offense. When Brady was the offensive coordinator for the Bills, his “true No. 1” receiver was Stefon Diggs, and that was when Brady implemented an “Everybody Eats” offense where the ball was spread around.
While it worked for a little bit, not having that true WR1 hurt the Bills at times. If they had one against the Denver Broncos in the playoffs, maybe, just maybe, the Bills would have been in the AFC Championship for a second consecutive season.
Beane has taken on a ton of heat over the past year for not getting a dynamic wide receiver, so he faces a ton of pressure to do so now. He could easily utilize a connection that Joe Brady has to try and acquire a specific receiver for the Chicago Bears.
Bills' next WR1 could be because of connection with Joe Brady
Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone listed the Bills as a potential landing spot for Bears wide receiver DJ Moore, if the Bears do decide to trade him.
"The Bills hired Joe Brady as their head coach in the 2026 offseason, and Brady was the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers back in 2020-21 when Moore was still with the team. He helped Moore to two of the best seasons of his NFL career, and the familiarity there could make this an ideal pairing for both sides." said Bedinger.
With Brady as the OC in Carolina, Moore had over 1,100+ yards in each of his seasons with Brady but he only had 8 total touchdowns in those two seasons. Moore was eventually traded from Carolina to Chicago as part of the trade that eventually helped the Panthers land Bryce Young.
Moore had a phenomenal first year in Chicago with 1,364 yards and a career-high 8 touchdowns in 2023. Since then, his production has started to regress, but part of the reason why is because of not just a newer quarterback in Caleb Williams, but the Bears have added so many other offensive weapons that includes Luther Burden and Colston Loveland.
The Bears will be looking to build off their successful 2025 season, but they could be looking to offload some of their current higher contracts. Moore is 28 years old and he’s still in his prime, but he may not be a long-term player for the Bears. If that’s the case and they are willing to trade him, a Bears-Bills trade for Moore makes complete sense.
