The 2026 NFL schedule will be officially released this Thursday, May 14th at 8PM EST and fans can’t wait for it to be dropped. However, games are bound to be leaked and then we will see some primetime games get confirmed prior to that day.
The Buffalo Bills are entering this coming season with a new head coach in Joe Brady, and they will be heading into a new stadium that is across the street from the old stadium. It’s truly a new era at One Bills Drive and the biggest question that fans are wondering is who will be the first Bills’ opponent for this season to come to Orchard Park to open up the new stadium.
Since the Bills are one of the top teams in the league, they are bound to have a great amount of primetime games on their schedule. They are fun to watch and Josh Allen himself can create a whole tape of his massive highlights.
Last season, the Bills opened up their final season in their old stadium against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Buffalo was down 15 points late in the 4th quarter and managed to come back and beat the Ravens, 41-40, off of a walkoff field goal by Matt Prater. That is the kind of excitement that fans want to see in primetime.
Some fans may have wanted the Bills back on primetime on Sunday night, but with Adam Schefter confirming the Week 1 SNF game, Buffalo won’t be part of it this season.
Bills won't be playing on Sunday Night Football in Week 1 after latest schedule confirmation
According to Adam Schefter, this season's Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup will feature the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. The NFL scheduling Dallas on primetime is nothing new, and with the Giants going into the John Harbaugh era with Jaxson Dart's second season, it seems like the NFL is putting belief that the Giants will become true competitors this season.
A division rival game to kick off the Sunday night schedule is never a bad idea, but this was the wrong matchup. The Giants are not a primetime team yet, to have them go up against Dallas under the lights will be a big task for them. The NFL is taking a huge risk on this game being a true battle with the whole world watching them.
Instead, this Week 1 matchup should have featured the Bills and the New England Patriots, who are bound to fight for the AFC East for years to come with two franchise quarterbacks in Josh Allen and Drake Maye. The Patriots won the division last year and the Bills are looking to take it back. Why not have that rivalry start in Week 1 in Buffalo’s new stadium?
While a Giants and Cowboys game can be viewed as a classic, the Giants are now going to have to live up to the hype that it is being put on them and who knows if they will be able to do it.
