The Buffalo Bills will now officially look for a new backup to Josh Allen. According to Mike Garafolo, quarterback Mitch Trubisky is signing a two-year deal to join the Tennessee Titans. Not only will he backup Cam Ward, but he reunites with Brian Daboll who was the offensive coordinator for the Bills in 2021 when Trubisky was there.

Trubisky leaves Buffalo after his second stint with the Bills where he signed with them in 2021, and then again in 2024. He’s been a quality backup for Allen and he shined in Week 18 this past season against the Jets where he threw for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns in the final game at the original Highmark Stadium.

Jeremy Fowler had reported that the Titans were one of the three teams that could be on Trubisky’s radar, and now he lands in Nashville. With Trubisky departing to Tennessee, the Bills are now in the market for a backup quarterback to Josh Allen.

Bills must now get quality backup QB to solidify behind Josh Allen

Since Josh Allen was drafted, the Bills have had backups like Trubisky, Matt Barkley, Kyle Allen, and Case Keenum. Now they will be looking for another backup and the Bills need to consider not only getting a veteran backup, but also drafting someone like Drew Allar in next month’s draft on Day 3.

Luckily, Allen doesn’t miss games and he hasn’t missed a game due to injury since his rookie season. However, the Bills cannot afford to not have a quality backup just incase something happens to Allen. If Buffalo didn’t have Allen under center, their offense would completely change.

With Trubisky, the offense wouldn’t have needed to change as much as he is able to make the immediate throws and scramble out of the pocket. Now, the Bills will have to find someone who is as close to Allen playstyle wise so that the offense can keep its continuity.

Trubisky will bring his veteran presence to Tennessee to help Cam Ward, who showed a ton of promise in his rookie season. The familiarity with Brian Daboll should help Trubisky fit right into the offense, and Ward will have a great backup.

It will be interesting to see the route that the Bills take to backup Allen, but they may need to act fast as it’s a position that is more important than fans think.
