It may not always seem like it, but Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane will always look for ways to stay aggressive and try to improve the team. However, Beane has been known to not overpay for a player no matter how great they might be. There are pros and cons about that approach. Sometimes it’s right, and sometimes it isn’t.
Even just last season, the Bills had made an offer to the Miami Dolphins to try and acquire wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, but Buffalo reportedly did not want to give up their first round pick in 2026…and yet they still didn’t make a first round pick back in April. However, Waddle is now in Denver while the Bills managed to land DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears.
Brandon Beane has history of always looking to improve Bills
Even though there have been more times that Beane has swung and missed, it’s good to know that he is staying aggressive and trying to find different ways to improve the Bills. Even though the wide receiver position was a bit of a mess the last two seasons, he eventually fixed it by acquiring Moore.
The run-defense for the Bills was a big-time mess and everyone knew it. With Buffalo getting Jim Leonhard as their new defensive coordinator, having a 3-4 scheme could help improve it, but it’s not perfect whatsoever.
Heading into the regular season next month, the Bills could still very well use help at defensive line (especially now that Phidarian Mathis has been suspended for the first three games), and Mike Garafolo from NFL Network has reported that the Bills are one of three teams that have checked in on the availability for Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl defensive tackle, Vita Vea.

Vea, who is looking for a new deal from the Buccaneers, requested a trade from the team due to a lack of progress on a new deal. For the type of run-stopper that he has been throughout his career, the Bills getting him would be absolutely a match made that would fix Buffalo’s defense in terms of stopping the run.
Not only does Vea do a phenomenal job of stopping the run, but he creates interior pressure which would be very important in Leonhard’s defense.Â
The biggest thing with looking to trade for Vea is that not only would a team have to give up a hefty price for him, but they will need to work on a contract extension as well. Who knows if Buffalo is willing to do that, but never say never. The last notable player that they traded for and then gave them an immediate extension was running back LeSean McCoy back in 2015. It's been over ten years since then.
