We are just over 24 hours away from the start of Week 2 where things will get kicked off in Orchard Park. The Buffalo Bills are opening up their new HIghmark Stadium where they will host a Detroit Lions team that can light up the scoreboard just as much as any other team in the NFL.
There will be a lot of key matchups for both teams, and one of them could be the ultimate difference maker in who comes out of this game with a win. The last time Buffalo and Detroit met each other, the Bills squeaked out a 48-42 win in Detroit where there was over 1,000 combined total yards. Based on what happened in Week 1, maybe there is a second part coming.
Bills vs. Lions set up to be high-scoring matchup
Both Buffalo and Detroit scored 31+ points this past Sunday against their respective teams. The Lions barely beat the New Orleans Saints in overtime, and the Bills prevented the Houston Texans from making a comeback late in the 4th quarter.
For as special as Detroit's offense is, the Bills' win over the Texans was way more impressive due to the fact that Houston had one of the best defenses going into the season. A defense that is led by the best edge rush duo in Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. Buffalo's offense put up 409 total yards against Houston, which shows just how dominant they were.
The Bills and Lions both have high-scoring offenses, with the ability to pass down the field and get the rushing attack going. However, Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone has a prediction that shows Buffalo's offense not missing a beat, and the defense cleaning things up from Week 1.
Week 2 score projections have Bills putting on great show vs. Lions
Bedinger predicted each Week 2 matchup going into Thursday night and Bedinger has the Bills winning their first game in their new stadium, beating the Lions 31-23.
"There was a bit too much of a disconnect between Jared Goff and his receivers in Week 1, even though they simultaneously had to score 31 points to beat the Saints. Goff targeted his big three weapons -- Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta -- a total of 31 times against New Orleans, and was only able to connect with them on 19 pass attempts." said Bedinger.
"The Bills just scored 36 points on the road against the Houston Texans' defense. Josh Allen accounted for four touchdowns, and the arsenal of playmakers at his disposal was significantly improved compared to what we've seen in recent years." Bedinger added..
With this score prediction, it shows us that the Bills' offense keeps the same spark that they had in Week 1 against a way tougher defense. Detroit's secondary is a major liability, which means that Josh Allen could very well have a fun day through the air.
On the defensive side, limiting an offense like the Lions to just 23 points would be a fantastic confidence boost for Jim Leonhard and the defense. This unit was embarrassed by C.J. Stroud and Houston's offense, so this is a chance for them to flip the script.
Kickoff from Highmark Stadium is at 8:15PM tomorrow night, and it could set the standard for what is to come in Week 2.
