For the past two years, the Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills have heard the criticism when it came to the construction of the roster. Overall, one of the main topics was whether or not star quarterback Josh Allen had enough support around him.
When you go back to the 2024 offseason, the Bills lost more than they gained. However, Allen carried the Bills that season to the AFC championship game and won the MVP award, rightfully so, ahead of Lamar Jackson. Then last season, it was nearly the same story where Allen was the star of the show with limited help around him.
When it comes to the support (or lack of support), the main topic has been the lack of wide receiver help for Allen to throw the ball down the field. There was a time when Allen had receivers like Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley, and Emmanuel Sanders.Â
For the past two seasons, while Allen has had some go-to guys like Khalil Shakir and a healthy Dalton Kincaid, it wasn’t enough to get Buffalo’s passing attack going on a consistent basis. Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer have been disappointments, Mack Hollins was more of a blocking receiver, Amari Cooper got traded midseason but then dealt with an injury in 2024, the list goes on and on.
After the Bills fired Sean McDermott and promoted Joe Brady to head coach, changes on the roster were bound to happen and that included the wide receiver room which is exactly what happened.
Bills fans have lots to be excited about Buffalo's offseason for one reason
Bryan DeArdo from CBS Sports listed one reason for each NFL team why there should be optimism now that the NFL Draft is over and done with. When it came to the Bills, DeArdo’s statement was very simple and spot on; "More help for Josh Allen".
"This offseason, the Bills helped Allen by acquiring veteran receiver DJ Moore from Chicago. Buffalo then spent a fourth-round draft pick on fellow wideout Skyler Bell, who caught a whopping 101 passes for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns last season while playing for Connecticut. Buffalo embarks on its 2026 campaign with Joe Brady as its new coach. Can the offensive-minded Brady get Allen over the playoff hump?" said DeArdo.
Trading for D.J. Moore was a home run move by the Bills because not only does it give Allen a true No. 1 receiver, but Moore has experience playing under Joe Brady back in their days together with the Carolina Panthers. Moore had some of his best seasons there and now he gets to run it back with Brady, but with a major upgrade at quarterback.
As for the drafting of Skyler Bell, the Bills may have themselves a steal considering that they got him in the 4th round out of UConn. Bell is shifty, can line up anywhere on the line, and is great after the catch. I would make the argument that he will be a Day 1 starter over someone like Keon Coleman or Joshua Palmer.
