The NFL Hall of Fame is the ultimate honor that players in history can be apart of. It doesn’t just show the greatness of players, it showcases the best players that the NFL world has seen since throughout history. The Buffalo Bills are no strangers to the Hall of Fame as they have had some fantastic players be inducted.
The immediate names that come to mind include Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, and Ralph Wilson Jr., all of who have played a big role in Buffalo’s history. The Bills have also seen players who played with them for a brief time make it into the Hall of Fame as well such as Terrell Owens.
Names like Kelly, Smith, Reed, and Thomas all have one thing in common…they played together at in their prime when the Bills were on the verge of starting a dynasty in the early 1990s. They made it to four consecutive Super Bowls, but couldn’t win one which still hurts Bills fans’ souls to this day.
However, there is one other impactful Bills player that was part of those teams that still has yet to make it into the Hall of Fame.
It's a matter of time before Steve Tasker makes the Hall of Fame
Eric Edholm from NFL.com recently listed each team’s next best Hall of Fame candidate and Steve Tasker was listed for Buffalo, but fans have known that for years now.
"Devin Hester getting in was yet another glass ceiling broken for special teams stars, and Tasker’s résumé -- and reputation -- is about as strong as it gets, as a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro. Buffalo has several “Hall of Very Good” candidates over the next several years but none with the kind of momentum that Tasker has, after advancing to the semifinal seniors stage last year." said Edholm.
Tasker is one of the best special teams players of all time. While he was listed as a wide receiver, he was known for being the best on special teams. He started his NFL career with the Houston Oilers in 1985, but then joined the Bills in the 1986 season where he ended up playing 12 seasons.
With multiple honors ranging from Pro Bowl to All-Pros, it is beyond ridiculous that Tasker has yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He helped change the game in the special teams aspect and showed that the third phase of the game can be a difference maker for a team.
