Bills need to be concerned about Liam Coen withdrawing from Jaguars job

With Liam Coen no longer in the running for Jacksonville, Joe Brady may have just been gifted a huge opportunity.

News broke earlier this morning about the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach search, but not in a good way. One of the reported candidates, Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator Liam Coen, took himself out of the running per Adam Schefter and will now be returning to Tampa Bay on a new deal that will make him one of the highest paid coordinators in the league.

It’s been reported that former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and former Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham are also in the running to potentially head down to Duval county to take the Jaguars’ head coaching job. However, a new name has popped up…Joe Brady.

The Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator was requested to interview with the Jaguars, but it looked like the Jaguars were moving on from him in their process. ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported this morning that with Coen withdrawing himself from the process, Brady is “a name to watch if the Jaguars expand their search to next week.”

This news should heavily worry Bills fans

Ever since the Jaguars decided to keep general manager Trent Baalke, we all knew it was going to be a rough process to bring in a head coach that would be tasked to change the culture and get the best out of Trevor Lawrence. The fact that Coen is deciding to stay as a coordinator rather than keep pursuing the Jags’ job, it’s quite concerning. However, someone is going to take that job.

Joe Brady has been beyond impressive for the Bills since taking over the play calling duties in the middle of last season. On paper, Brady of course has Josh Allen but no other huge names on the offense (aside from maybe James Cook). That doesn’t matter to Brady though because his “everybody eats” mentality has worked this season to the point where Mack Hollins has sometimes been Allen’s go-to guy.

Buffalo’s offense has averaged over 30 points per game this year and they are riding a two-playoff win streak into the AFC championship game. With this news from Fowler, Bills fans should be concerned about losing a bright play caller in Brady. Who knows how the Jaguars will operate their process moving forward, but Buffalo should be on the lookout if there is any growing news about a pairing between Brady and Jacksonville.
