There are lots of Bills fans that are hoping that Brandon Beane makes the decision to add some value to the roster prior to next Tuesday’s trade deadline. However, one thing that fans might be forgetting is that maybe it wouldn’t be the worst idea to also trade away a player that is not providing any value.

One of those players is wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who the Bills signed in free agency in 2024. When he signed his three-year deal with Buffalo, the hope was that he would become this versatile weapon for the offense where he not only helps to the outside, but that he would also even play a little bit of running back.

His best season he’s had was when he was with the Carolina Panthers when Joe Brady was his offensive coordinator. However, in his second season with the team, the disappointment from last season has continued on.

The Bills must move on from Curtis Samuel before trade deadline

Alaina Getzenberg from ESPN recently talked about how Samuel could be someone that the Bills move on from. Specifically, the question that was asked was "Who could be on the move?" (refering to the NFL trade deadline). Here’s what Getzenberg said about Samuel:

"It just hasn't come together for him, as he has been injured in both of his seasons in Buffalo and was a healthy scratch for three games to start the season. In his 17 games played with Buffalo, Samuel has 34 receptions (only three this season), 288 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to five carries for 14 yards. The Bills could use help at receiver, but Samuel hasn't shown that he can be part of the solution."

Last season, Samuel had only 253 yards and 1 touchdown in the regular season. This season, Samuel has missed a good amount of action and has just 3 catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. He’s not a contributor at all to this offense, which is a big disappointment considering the success he had with Brady in Carolina.

Just like Getzenberg said, the Bills could use another receiver to help boost this offense. But Samuel has not been the difference maker and is playing a big role as to why Buffalo needs to upgrade their wide receiver room.
