One consistent problem that the Buffalo Bills have had for a while that doesn’t get talked about a lot is having a consistent pass rusher who can close out games. In 2022, the Bills made a huge splash in free agency by signing Von Miller to a six-year deal after he won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. Miller only ended up playing in Buffalo for three seasons and was not the player he once was after his ACL injury on Thanksgiving in 2022.
Miller has since played with the Washington Commanders, and recently signed with the Dallas Cowboys even though some people may have thought that the would reunite with the Bills.
Then in the 2025 offseason, the Bills released Miller and ended up signing Joey Bosa to a one-year deal. While Bosa did lead the league with 5 forced fumbles, his pass rush regressed near the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. He also was not great at all in run-support. He was one-and-done in Buffalo as his contract expired and he still hasn't signed with a new team.
Now, the Bills have brought in Bradley Chubb, who has been in the AFC East since the 2022 season where he was with the Miami Dolphins. The Bills signed Chubb to a three-year deal, pairing him with Jim Leonhard in a defense that is perfect for Chubb.
Bradley Chubb has opportunity to fix Bills' pass rush issue
When Chubb is on the field, he is one the better pass rushers in the league. The biggest knock on him is his injury history where he has missed a good amount of time throughout his career. In 2019, Chubb played in just four games after tearing his ACL. Then late in the 2023 season, Chubb tore his ACL which caused him to miss the rest of the season and then all of 2024.
However, when you combine his 2023 and 2025 seasons, Chubb has racked up 19.5 sacks and 8 forced fumbles. That is encouraging for Bills fans as Chubb prepares to play his first season in Buffalo. When the Bills signed Chubb to a three-year deal, it creates stability for the future but it isn't a long-term commitment either.
Bills signing Bradley Chubb still viewed as top signing from free agency
Brad Gagnon from Bleacher Report listed a re-ranking list of some of the top free agency signings and the Bills signing Chubb was given a grade of an “A+” which shows that the Bills knew what they were doing when they signed Chubb.
"This one remains somewhat under the radar. Coming off a torn ACL that cost him all of 2024, Chubb had 8.5 sacks while getting reacclimated in 2025. The 30-year-old former top-five pick could easily return to a Pro Bowl level in a new, winning environment. He's looked stellar thus far this offseason." said Gagnon.
Chubb joined a contender, staying in the AFC East, and now he will need to prove that the Bills made the right decision to invest in him. Luckily, throughout this summer, Chubb has been impressive with the way he has been practicing, as well as being a great leader. As long as stays healthy, Chubb has the chance to thrive big time in this new defense under Jim Leonhard.
