Bills may have just given Mike Tomlin second thoughts about his next move

The Buffalo Bills might have just made the one move to get Mike Tomlin to reconsider stepping away from football, even temporarily.

The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Sean McDermott, who has been the team's head coach since 2017. McDermott simply couldn't get the job done in the playoffs, and with a quarterback like Josh Allen at the helm, the standard is higher than simply regular season success.

With McDermott out, the Bills have arguably the most attractive job opening in the entire NFL. And it might not even be arguable at this point. They have the reigning MVP at the quarterback position, a roster full of players hungry to get to the mountaintop, and they simply need the right leader to get them there. These opportunities don't come around often, and Mike Tomlin will understand that.

Mike Tomlin needs to reconsider his hiatus to lead Josh Allen and the Bills to a Super Bowl

As the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin became the victim of his own success. He obviously led the team to a Super Bowl win earlier in his career, but over 19 years with the franchise, he never had a single losing season.

Even if the standard is higher in Pittsburgh just like it is in Buffalo, that is nearly impossible for any NFL team to do.

There were already videos and photos circulating recently of Tomlin attending his daughter's gymnastics competition, and seemingly putting feet to his words about investing in his family. And he may stick to his word on that one, but when it comes to NFL head coaches, you know the competitive drive doesn't just go away.

Even if Tomlin was getting burnt out during his time in Pittsburgh (my words, not his), you would have to think a fresh start in a place like Buffalo could rejuvenate him. And frankly, it could be a major catalyst for Josh Allen as well.

Teams that end up winning the Super Bowl in the NFL need the right ingredients. Even if you have a really good quarterback and a really good head coach, it might not be the right mix to make things happen. The Bills have had a really good coach and an elite quarterback for years now, and they haven't been able to get past a certain point in the playoffs.

Tomlin could be the coach to get the Bills over the hump. If he's planning on getting back into coaching at some point, even if it's in the back of his mind right now, this is an opportunity he can't pass on. To get Josh Allen in his prime years would give Tomlin arguably his best shot at both immediate and long-term success with a new franchise.

Not to mention, the Bills are getting a brand-new stadium next season. This is one of the most dedicated and devoted fan bases in the world. Players love Tomlin.

If there was any job that could realistically become available this offseason to get Tomlin to reconsider his next move, it's this one.
