Bills fans still may feel a bit of anger and disappointment with the lack of moves the front office didn’t pull off at the trade deadline. The Bills had a clear need of improving the wide receiver group and they weren’t able to pull off a move for in-division rival Jaylen Waddle.
After the trade deadline passed, the Bills signed wide receiver and special teams contributor Mecole Hardman to the practice squad, and then eventually signed him to the active roster prior to Week 11. Buffalo also elevated Gabe Davis from the practice squad for their Week 11 game against the Buccaneers, and he was solid in his return to Buffalo.
However, it was Tyrell Shavers that stood out the most for the Bills’ receiving room with 4 catches for 90 yards and one touchdown. While it is great to see him shine a bit, Buffalo still has a weakness at wide receiver and they could use some more help. However, they should avoid taking the route that is being suggested by Julia Stumbaugh from Bleacher Report.
Bills listed as landing spot for WR Odell Beckham (but it's not a good pairing)
Beckham has been officially reinstated from his six-game suspension and is free to sign with any team, and the Bills have been listed as a team that should consider signing him. Here’s a bit on what Stumbaugh said about this potential pairing:
"Given that tight end Dalton Kincaid is dealing with a hamstring injury after also missing time to injury last season, adding Beckham would give Buffalo some insurance should Allen lose any more of his top targets down the stretch."Julia Stumbaugh, Bleacher Report
The Bills were reportedly interested in signing Beckham prior to the 2024 season, according to Jeremy Fowler per Adam Wells of Bleacher Report, but Beckham decided to sign within the division with the Dolphins. Beckham would play in just 9 games and only had 9 catches for 55 yards. Yeah, that didn’t go so well for him down in south beach.
Beckham has been out of the league for over a year and has not been the same player that he once was. Since 2020, he hasn’t reached 600 receiving yards in a season and has not been helpful in a team’s success ever since he won a Super Bowl with the LA Rams. He is past his prime and Buffalo doesn’t need to use a roster spot on him when they have already tried different routes with wide receivers.
They signed Joshua Palmer to a three-year deal in free agency, and eventually signed Elijah Moore in the summer to boost the wideout core. However, they haven’t been impactful as fans had hoped for. They invested money with Khalil Shakir, they have hopes that Keon Coleman can improve in various ways on and off the field, and now they have players like Tyrell Shavers and Gabe Davis who are better fits.
There is just no room for Beckham in this offense and it would not make any sense for both sides to agree to a deal to finish out this season.
