The entire NFL world saw a blockbuster trade involving the Los Angeles Rams, as they traded for EDGE Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. Even though the Rams gave up Jared Verse, as well as three picks including a 2027 1st-round pick, getting the defensive player by a mile is well worth it. It's a risk for sure, but it's a risk that the Rams were right to take.
With this trade happening, the Buffalo Bills will have the not-so-great pleasure of facing Garrett when the Bills take on the Rams in Week 5 on Monday Night Football this season. However, atleast Garrett was traded to an NFC contender rather than him staying in the AFC and go to a team like the Chiefs, Broncos, or even the Patriots.
This is one of those trades that isn’t common, but it’s not unheard of either. Over the course of history, we have seen blockbuster trades happening involving star players, or players that eventually became stars. The Bills have been part of that, just on the wrong side of it as Bryan DeArdo from CBS Sports pointed out on a list of the “greatest trades of all-time” which was created due to the Garrett trade.
Myles Garrett reminds Bills fans of painful trade made with Seahawks
Coming in at No. 9 on DeArdo’s list was when the Bills traded Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks during the 2010 season. All that Buffalo got was a 2011 4th-round and 2012 5th-round pick. All that Seattle got was a Pro Bowl running back who helped them win a Super Bowl. Yeah…that’s embarrassing for the Bills.
"He [Lynch] was among Seattle's key figures during the team's Super Bowl run in 2013 and NFC championship run in 2014. In six seasons with the Seahawks, Lynch rushed for 6,347 yards and 79 touchdowns during the regular season, 937 yards and nine scores in 11 postseason games." said DeArdo.
Despite the Bills drafting Lynch in the first round, his tenure there ended quickly and it worked out for Lynch. Not so much for the Bills.
Obviously, Lynch is not the kind of player that Garrett currently is. He is, however, one of the more dynamic powerbacks that the NFL has ever seen. The fact that the Seahawks got him for just two mid-round picks was a major steal.
