At 6PM on Sunday evening, the Buffalo Bills and the rest of the NFL had to have their final 53-man roster solidified going into Week 1 that begins in just over a week. While more moves can still be made ahead of the regular season, fans got to see who made the initial 53.
The Bills went in different directions for various positions on their initial roster. Some made complete sense, while others caught fans off guard. For example, they are set to bring on four tight ends instead of just three. Then they only kept five corners, but brought on five safeties. It’s not typical to see this from the Bills, but here we are.
With Buffalo having a new-look this year, it only makes sense to see some things change in ways that we haven't seen for nearly a decade.
Bills' initial 53-man roster is set (but changes could still come)
It is very possible that the Bills make more moves with the active roster from now until they head down to Houston to take on the Texans in Week 1. If the Bills put in a waiver claim for a player and are granted it, that means that they will need to make room for that player, and someone who thought that they were on the initial 53, will no longer be with the team.
While anything can take place from here on out with the roster, there are different ways to look at the Bills' roster that they put together ahead of the cutdown deadline. There is one factor that fans should take into consideration that may be overlooked, which involves their rookie draft class from this past April.
Bills seem to have full confidence in majority of rookie class from 2026
Heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bills had just seven draft picks to work with that didn’t include a second round pick. However, Brandon Beane worked a little bit of magic to turn those seven into ten total selections. Out of those ten selections, only one did not make the initial roster; CB Toriano Pride Jr. who the Bills drafted in the 7th round back in April.
The rest of the rookie draft class made it, which includes OL Ar'Maj Reed-Adams, who was the Bills' final draft selection. To make this many selections four months ago and only seeing one not making the initial roster is a great sign for the future of the team.
We may only see players 3-4 players from the draft class get meaningful snaps this season, but the rest did enough to show the coaching staff that they are worthy of a roster spot. This is a great thing to see from Buffalo's initial roster.
