Bills have the NFL’s weirdest position situation (and it's not a bad thing)

If you were to ask any Buffalo Bills fan about the current safety room and the players that they have at that position, it would be split down the middle on thoughts about it. For many seasons, Bills fans were blessed to have the best safety duo in the league for a long time in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.

There was never a concern about that position and the Bills’ defense was one of the best in the league with them there. However, all great things eventually come to an end and now the Bills find themselves in a position where this group is arguably the worst on the team.

The Bills have Taylor Rapp, who is by far their best safety on the roster. Then they have a second-year player in Cole Bishop who has had some inconsistency and injuries. Buffalo would then re-sign Damar Hamlin and sign Darrick Forrest in free agency, both to one-year deals. Forrest was released by the Bills on the final day of roster cuts, per Joe Buscaglia.

Long story short, the Bills are basically running it back with the same room they had last season and quite frankly, it’s very interesting and weird that they would do this when they have faced a lot of criticism over the past year.

Bills' safety room is weakest link but there was no improvement

If the Bills’ secondary cannot produce at a high level this season, the front office and the coaching staff are going to face a lot of heat. Maybe Forrest was brought in to potentially become a starter across from Rapp, but clearly that won’t be happening.

Instead, we will be seeing a running back with the same room with the same players that fans were disappointed in last season and this past offseason. However, the fact that this is the Bills’ weirdest storyline going into this season should be a great thing, considering the fact that other teams are dealing with worse situations.
