The Buffalo Bills are sitting at 9-2 for the first time since 1992, and are contending for the first seed in the AFC with the Kansas City Chiefs. In a rebuilding year, the Bills, specifically head coach Sean McDermott are doing very, very well. On offense, Buffalo has been seeing production from players that fans didn’t expect heading into the season. And on defense, first-year coordinator Bobby Babich’s pass rush has been stellar, and cornerback Christian Benford has been having a career year.

Despite this, there are still improvements the Bills need to make. The Bills have a fantastic shot at contending with the Chiefs, or even getting past the Chiefs, by making just two more improvements down the stretch of the season. What are they exactly? Let’s dive into it.

Getting Dalton Kincaid more involved

After finishing last season with some great performances, Bills fans expected Kincaid to get plenty of passes thrown to him, and take over the “first option” role left by Stefon Diggs, which hasn’t been the case. So far this year, Kincaid has totaled 356 yards and two touchdowns on 34 receptions. Kincaid is third on the team in yards, behind Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, and second in receptions, only behind Shakir. With the San Francisco 49ers, LA Rams, and Detroit Lions left on the schedule, the Bills need everything going right for them, and that includes getting their ultra-talented tight end involved more often.

Avoid unnecessary penalties on the offensive line

The offensive line has been tremendous this year, except for the amount of penalties called on them. Dion Dawkins leads the way with 10 penalties, and fellow tackle Spencer Brown has nine called on him, while the offensive line as a unit has been called 29 times. Buffalo has been hurt by drive-stalling penalties in multiple games this year, and it will have to be cleaned up before Buffalo gets to the playoffs. Against some ferocious pass rushes in Detroit and San Francisco, the Bills will not only need to keep Josh Allen clean but avoid stalling out due to penalties.

For an offense that ranks 13th in the league and a defense that ranks 16th in the league, via Fox Sports, there are not many improvements Buffalo needs to make. However, if they improve in these two areas, including what site expert Brandon Ray included, the Bills will be an unstoppable team once the playoffs begin. The Bills play again on December 1st against the 49ers.
