Bills follow up big MNF win by trading for WR Amari Cooper from Browns

After a huge Monday Night Football win over the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills made a huge trade acquisition by getting wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns, per Tom Pelissero.

This trade comes hours after it was reported that the New York Jets had traded for Aaron Rodgers’ old friend in Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. Seeing both of these teams make moves the day after they played against each other shows that the grind doesn’t stop.

Buffalo was in desperate need for a wide receiver and Cooper is the perfect fit for them. The Bills get Cooper and a 2025 6th round pick in exchange for a 2025 3rd round pick and 2026 7th round pick. After games of disastrous production by the receiving core in Weeks 4 and 5, Brandon Beane heard the outside noise and delivered a wideout who is still top-25 in the league.

Cooper has been held back in Cleveland because of the horrible quarterback play by Deshaun Watson, and the Browns look like they are going to start preparing for next season and call it quits on this season. It’s no surprise that they moved off of Cooper, especially to a team that is in first place in their division.

Cooper hasn’t had a great season with Watson as his quarterback. He has just 24 receptions for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns. Now his numbers should go up without question with Allen throwing him the ball.

Ever since the Bills traded away Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, their wide receiver room has not looked the greatest and even though Khalil Shakir is a solid wideout, he can’t be the number one receiver down the stretch. Getting a guy like Cooper for this offense and pairing him with a quarterback like Josh Allen will open up the playbook and allow other players to get more involved.

Buffalo Bills make a splash like getting Amari Cooper

Brandon Beane needed to deliver something big for the Bills and considering the tight salary cap that the Bills are facing, getting a guy like Cooper at the price they got him for is a fantastic move. The Bills still have plenty of draft picks for next year so giving up a third round pick for Cooper is nothing.

Now the Bills will look to catch Cooper up to speed and maybe even get him ready to suit up for Sunday’s game against the Titans.
