The final day of the NFL Draft will begin at 12PM EST and the Buffalo Bills will have a busy day. Even though they have already made three selections with Maxwell Hairston, T.J. Sanders, and Landon Jackson, they are set to enter into Rounds 4-7 with 7 picks to use. Now, will they use all of those picks today? My guess is not, but you never know.
Hopefully the Bills take this day to bring in some offensive players to add with Josh Allen. However, it wouldn’t be the wrost idea in the world to keep loading up the defense either.
TheBR (Bleacher Report) NFL Draft Scouting Departmentmade their Day 3 predictions for every single pick. All of the attention is obviously going to be on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders who has experienced a massive drop. However, the Day 3 players are some of the most hidden gems that teams can find, so fans shouldn’t lose sight on them.
If the Bills are going to go with offense at some point, one position that they will need to strongly look at is running back. With the offseason contract drama involving James Cook, who knows if the Bills will bring him back after 2025. Even though Cook is a solid player and has rushed for back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, paying him $15-$20 million per year is a lot of money and the Bills would basically be saying that Cook is just as great as Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Bills take a running back today, but Bleacher Report has the Bills taking two (yes, two!) running backs today who could be the eventual replacements for Cook.
B/R has Bills drafting two potential James Cook replacements
At No. 170 (5th round), B/R has the Bills taking Kansas running back Devin Neal. Then at No. 240 (7th round), the Bills also take Michigan running back Donovan Edwards.
I can get behind the idea of the Bills taking a risk with Neal who was extremely productive at Kansas. He’s rushed for 1,000+ yards the last three seasons and has 32 rushing touchdonws the last two years. The wild productiveness might even land him on a team sooner than in the 5th round.
I seriously doubt that the Bills would take a running back in the 7th round. However, Edwards is a big back at 6’1” 212lbs, and he’s used to playing in the cold in Ann Arbor. Well, it gets cold in Buffalo very quickly in the fall. He could become a third-and-short/goaline back for the Bills and it takes pressure off of Josh Allen to run it himself.
Today might be the day where Bills fans see Cook’s replacement get drafted, especially if the Bills feel like 2025 will be Cook’s last season in Buffalo. However, if the Bills leave this draft without a running back, then it’s got to make you think that maybe, just maybe, Cook and Buffalo can agree on a new deal where both sides feel comfortable.
