After selecting five consecutive defensive players, the Buffalo Bills have finally made their first offensive draft pick. In the 5th round, at No. 173, the Bills drafted Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes. The Bills went heavy on defense throughout this draft but they made a move to get some offensive help with Hawes.

Hawes will be joining the Bills’ tight end room that has Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid. The Bills don’t have Quinton Morris on the roster anymore, so Hawes more than likely will become the TE3 on the roster.

Hawes transferred to Georgia Tech from Yale in 2024 and put up only 195 yards off of 16 catches. He obviously didn’t get the opportunity to shine in Georgia Tech’s offense, but this pick seems like a bit of a waste by the Bills.

Bills draft for the wrong position on offense

The Bills needed to get an offensive player for sure, but they were better off with addressing the offensive line, wide receiver, heck maybe even draft a quarterback to compete with Mitch Trubisky. Nope, they instead go with a position that they could’ve addressed later on.

Especially when you consider that players like RB Devin Neal and QB Kyle McCord on the board that could have been more valuable for the Bills. I’m sure Hawes will be able to prove his worth and it’s hard to doubt Beane when it comes to the draft, but this just seems like a massive reach.

Hawes will come in and compete for a roster spot in training camp. Maye he will be a hidden gem that maybe takes the spot from Knox and Kincaid later on in the future. For now though, he is a big question mark and this could very well be the worst pick by Beane in this year’s draft.
