Free agency will officially start on Wednesday March 11th at 4PM EST, but the legal tampering period will begin on March 9th. So, players and teams can agree to terms but they can’t officially sign until two days later. The Buffalo Bills will have to get busy right away to fill out this roster that has a good amount of holes.

The Bills have some of the best players in the game, but they also have a lot of room for improvement to remain as a true Super Bowl contender. Don't get me wrong, when you have Josh Allen in his prime, the Bills are always in the conversation. At the same time, there is only so much that Allen can do. There has to be other playmakers on both sides of the ball.

One hole that the Bills are staring at is on defense with their linebackers. Matt Milano is a pending free agent and with the Bills going from a 5-2-4 to a 3-4 defense, they are going to need not just his potential replacement, but depth as well.

Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report listed the “perfect free-agent signing” for the Bills in 2026, and it’s a player that no fans saw coming.

Bills listed as perfect free agent fit for Packers LB Quay Walker

"Landing Quay Walker would give the Bills a younger, more athletic upgrade in the middle of the defense. That would allow for an easier transition away from Sean McDermott's defense in 2026. Walker would be a good running mate for Terrel Bernard, giving them two linebackers in their prime." said Ballentine.

Signing someone like Walker would not necessarily be a bad idea and his market value is listed at just $8.3 million according to Spotrac.

He’s also had 100+ total tackles in each of his seasons in Green Bay, but with the Bills having a tough salary cap situation right now and already having someone like Dorian Williams who can play just like Walker, it is just surprising to see Walker listed as the perfect free agent signing.

Not to mention, it would make more sense for the Bills to save some money by re-signing Milano even if it’s just a one-year deal and his market value is listed at just $4.6 million per Spotrac.

Even though the Bills are entering a new scheme, there has to be some continuity with the change and Milano has been one of Buffalo’s most valuable players when he’s healthy. He had a solid 2025 season and he can still play at a high level. It would make more sense for the Bills to bring Milano back, but then draft his eventual replacement for 2027, rather than bring in Walker for more money.
