The NFL Combine is underway and the Buffalo Bills will be looking at the talent that will be joining the NFL here very soon. The NFL Draft will take place in late April and the Bills will need to decide what routes they want to take. A key factor that fans will be watching for in both free agency and the draft is seeing what defensive talent will be brought in.

With Joe Brady being named as the head coach and being an offensive-mind, he needed to bring in a dynamite defensive coordinator. He did that by bringing in Jim Leonhard to coach the defense. The scheme will look very different, and the players in it may look very different as well.

The Bills are going to need to bring in some linebacker depth, as well as someone to replace Matt Milano if the Bills decide to not bring him back. There are plenty of linebacker prospects coming out of this year’s draft, but the Bills may not need to look too far if they are looking for someone who can be dynamic and knows Buffalo.

Bills need to keep close eye on LB Red Murdock

Red Murdock is a linebacker that played for the University at Buffalo, not far at all from Orchard Park where the Bills played. For the past two seasons, Murdock has established himself as one of the best and overlooked linebackers in the nation. He has had 140+ total tackles in each of the last two seasons and has an act of causing turnovers (he had 13 forced fumbles the last two seasons).

Per Maddy Glab, Murdock spoke with the media at the combine and said that Buffalo “is his second home” and he “would love a chance to play next to Joe Andreessen.”

Andreessen has been with the Bills the last two seasons and he outplayed Deion Jones for a spot on the roster in 2024. He’s mainly been a special teams contributor, but we have seen him on defense and he has taken advantage of his opportunities.

Andreessen and Murdock played football together at UB and seeing them again as teammates in Bills jerseys would be quite the scene. Two players who played their college ball in Buffalo, now playing at the highest level in the same city would be an amazing sight for fans.

Murdock is extremely underrated and wherever he goes, he is bound to make an impact. He not only would have great depth to start out, but he would have the chance to work his way up to becoming a starter. Again, he knows Buffalo and knows what the city is like. The Bills should not be overthinking this.
