For anyone that started watching Buffalo Bills football in the Josh Allen era knows that the Bills have been one of the most dominating teams in the NFL. In fact, Allen has been part of the turnaround for the organization and every single year, the Bills are consistent contenders. However, fans who have been watching the Bills for a long time know that things weren't always great.
Let’s not forget, there was a 17-season period where the Bills didn’t make the playoffs. They also lost four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 1990s. They have had great players on their team, but nothing to show for it. Being a Bills fan is not for everyone, and history has proven it.
Things haven’t always been great for the Bills, both in the past and in the present. While they have been one of the most dominating teams in the league, there have been times where they have suffered some kind of heartbreak that ended up being historic in some fashion. Cody Williams from FanSided.com is making Bills Mafia think back to four different instances where hearts of Bills fans were shattered.

Williams recently listed “the 50 most iconic plays” throughout the course of the history of the NFL, and there are four listed events that the Bills were involved in, just on the wrong side.
Even though it wasn't ranked the highest out of the four, the infamous "Wide Right" missed kick by Scott Norwood in Super Bowl XXV was by far the biggest heartbreak that Bills fans had to experience. This came in at No. 9 on Williams' list.
"Unfortunately, the last dubious inclusion on this list is at the expense of the Buffalo Bills. It'll never not be remarkable in the worst possible way that the franchise made four-straight Super Bowls and came out with no rings, but Scott Norwood's wide right field goal is the poster child for that awful experience for Buffalo." said Williams.
That missed kick was the start of the Bills losing four straight Super Bowls, all of them to teams in the NFC East. The unfortunate part, too, is that the Bills only lost by one point to the New York Giants. In their next three Super Bowls, they didn't stand a chance against Dallas or Washington. If Norwood had made that kick, Buffalo would have atleast one Super Bowl.
The highest ranked moment on Williams' list that involved the Bills was the "Music City Miracle" against the Tennessee Titans. Who knows if that lateral from Frank Wycheck was a true lateral, or illegal forward pass, but the play happened and the Titans defeated the Bills on a wild special teams kick return for a touchdown.
Coming in three spots after that was the 13-second drive from Patrick Mahomes, where the Bills were leading the Chiefs 36-33 with 13 seconds left in the 2021-2022 Divisional Round game. The last two minutes of regulation was scoring back and forth, but the Bills had the chance to close it out. While they did score, they learned that 13 seconds was too much time for Mahomes.
In the end, Mahomes and the Chiefs somehow managed to hit a game-tying field goal, won the coin toss to start with the ball in overtime, and then they beat the Bills 42-36.
Then finally, at No. 47 on the list was the “Hail Murray” pass that happened in 2020 when the Bills were playing the Arizona Cardinals. Once again, the Bills had the lead with 34 seconds left in regulation. Then Kyler Murray rolled out to the left and launched the ball into the endzone, and it landed in the hands of DeAndre Hopkins, who caught it over Buffalo’s three best defenders (Tre’Davious White, Micah Hyde, and Jordan Poyer).
That game broke the spirits of Bills Mafia for a little bit because it was a play that you typically don’t see much. It’s one thing to lose on a Hail Mary conversion, it’s another thing to have your three best defenders not be enough to knock down away from one receiver.
