Being a Buffalo Bills fan in the era where Tom Brady was with the New England Patriots was an absolute nightmare. Year after year, after year, after year, the Patriots were beating up the Bills. If there was one thing that was pretty much guaranteed every season for the Bills, it was them getting swept by New England.
As the quarterback of the Patriots, Brady went 32-3 against the Bills. He would eventually add on one more win against Buffalo in 2021 when he was in Tampa Bay. The last time that Brady lost to the Bills was in 2014, where backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo played a majority of the game.
Ever since Brady left the Patriots in 2020, the Bills have taken over as the top team in the AFC East. Buffalo has only lost to the Patriots three times, with one of those losses being in a very pointless Week 18 matchup this past season where Joe Milton played the Patriots out of the first overall pick.
New England brought in Mike Vrabel as their new head coach after a one-and-done year in 2024. Vrabel, who has had success as a head coach with the Tennessee Titans, was with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant but will now have the chance to work with Drake Maye.
Bills must hope Patriots don't build around Drake Maye
Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report listed that the Patriots’ main goal for 2025 should be to build an offense around Drake Maye.
"The Patriots are well-equipped for an offensive overhaul, with a top-five pick and a whopping $119.8 million in cap space. That's good though, because New England needs just about everything except a quarterback."Gary Davenport, Bleacher Report
Believe it or not, it was the Patriots that gave the Bills the most trouble this past season. Despite Drake Maye being a rookie quarterback, he has shown a lot of promise for the future in New England. Maye only played in one full game against the Bills and he almost led a comeback against Buffalo in Orchard Park.
Finishing with 261 yards through the air as well as two touchdowns, Maye may have given the Bills a preview of what is to come for the future. Now that he has a solid coach in Mike Vrabel and the Patriots have the most cap space out of anyone, Maye has the chance to succeed if the Patriots build around him. Bills fans have to be hoping that the Patriots fail Maye.
The last thing we want to see is the Patriots become contenders again. For nearly two decades, Bills fans had to endure the punishment that the Patriots delivered every single year. While Maye still has a lot to grow in, he is far from being a bust. Pairing him with Vrabel provides instant stability. Now we just need to hope that New England doesn’t build up around Maye because if they do, the Bills might have to deal with the Patriots once again.
