After bringing in two defensive backs in Dee Alford and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Buffalo Bills weren’t done with the secondary revamp. Jordan Schultz reported that the Bills were signing former Bengals and Ravens safety Geno Stone to a one-year deal. The signing of Stone continued more of the defensive overhaul in Buffalo, especially in the secondary.

Stone comes to Buffalo with 14 career interceptions (7 of them being in 2023 with the Ravens) and he is coming off his first 100+ total tackle season last season with the Bengals. This surprising signing was something that not a lot of fans expected, especially since Gardner-Johnson was brought in. However, you can never have too much competition and Stone might even find himself in more of a hybrid role in Jim Leonhard’s defense.

When it was announced that Jim Leonhard would become the Bills’ next defensive coordinator, fans knew that changes were coming to this defense and Brandon Beane is delivering for sure, even if there was a slow start in this process.

We can talk about the stats that Stone has over his career, but there is one thing to focus on when it comes to this signing that makes it a solid one for the Bills.

Bills signing Geno Stone is extremely valuable for one reason

Stone has been in the league for five seasons and he hasn’t missed a game in four seasons. In 2021, he only missed two games. Long story short, his durability is a huge presence in this signing.

Just like D.J. Moore, Stone doesn’t miss action and that should be music to Bills Mafia’s ears. Every season for awhile now, Bills fans have seen the injury bug hit the Bills to the point where there were times Buffalo would have to sign players just to fill out the roster.

This is now the second player coming to Buffalo where durability is not an issue. That is fantastic to hear. In addition, Stone now becomes depth or a versatile defender that could be lined up anywhere in the secondary.

The overhaul on the defense continues on and there is reason to believe that it won’t stop either. The Bills still need to bring in some linebackers, as well as another pass rusher who will line up off the edge rather than at outside linebacker. Up to this point, Beane deserves credit for what he’s been able to do. Let’s see if it continues on.
