The beginning of the NFL Draft went as we all expected as the Las Vegas Raiders selected quarterback Fernando Mendoza first overall. Then the New York Jets were on the clock and they selected Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey, which was a bit of an expected move. However, the Jets selecting Bailey over Arvell Reese should be a blessing for Bills fans.

The Jets are the ones that truly started the draft and while Bailey is someone who can be a game wrecker for sure, the Jets had the chance to draft a dominant defensive player in Arvell Reese, who could very well be the best defensive player in this draft.

Bills fans are laughing at Jets after picking David Bailey over Arvell Reese

Right now, Bailey is the better pure pass rusher which is what the Jets need. At the same time, Reese has a much higher ceiling who can play at linebacker and edge rusher. Not to mention, Reese is younger and his abilities that he has should help him in the long run more than Bailey.

Under Aaron Glenn in his first season last year, the Jets’ defense fell apart badly. Even before they traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the Jets couldn’t get anything right and their rebuild is now in progress with Bailey.

For any Bills fans that think Bailey is the better player than Reese, no need to worry. Again, Bailey is the better pure pass rusher at this point, but Reese is a lot more versatile and can do a lot more damage than Bailey can.

The Bills should be very happy that the Jets decided to go with the established pass rusher who may not be able to grow a lot more as a disruptive EDGE. While the Bills are solid at offensive tackle with Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown, the idea of them having to worry about Reese should have had Bills fans concerned as time goes on.

Now, the Bills will be facing Bailey twice a year when they face the Jets and all that Buffalo needs to do is make sure that they don’t let Bailey flat out bullrush over them to cause chaos. The Jets will pick again later in the first round and while they think that Bailey will be a big difference maker, Bills fans should know that the Jets went with comfort instead of the risky, but super high-reward player with Reese.
