One of the best rivalries in the NFL will have another chapter in 2026. On Thanksgiving night, the Buffalo Bills will host the Kansas City Chiefs in a regular season matchup that seems like the millionth time that they will face each other.
Whenever the Bills and Chiefs face off against each other, whether it’s in the regular season or playoffs, their games typically come down to the wire. The Bills have had the Chiefs’ number in the regular season since 2021, but the Chiefs have gotten the best of Buffalo in the playoffs which is what matters the most.
Kansas City is coming off an unexpected down year which featured Patrick Mahomes tearing his ACL. With some changes on the roster and in the coaching staff, they will be looking to get back to that championship contender status.
Training camp is rapidly approaching, and we managed to speak with Matt Conner from Arrowhead Addict, covering the Chiefs, and Conner provided some great pre-training camp insights about the Chiefs for Bills fans.
1.) With Eric Bieniemy coming back as the OC, what is the overall vibe of this move amongst Chiefs fans?
"Accountability. Details. We've heard it again and again from Chiefs players throughout the offseason that they love having EB back in the building. The offensive slump in recent years. The lack of development at the skill positions. Bieniemy raises the floor there. His style is intense and grating, and perhaps it became too much after a decade, but they say you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone and that's been the message this offseason."
2.) What would you say was the Chiefs' biggest move that they made this offseason (whether it was through free agency, the draft, losing a player, etc) and why?
"All eyes on the run game. The signing of Kenneth Walker Jr. The hiring of Bieniemy, a RBs coach at heart. The hiring of DeMarco Murray as new RBs coach from Oklahoma. The drafting of Emmett Johnson. The signing of Emari Demercado. The Chiefs literally emptied the cupboards, sanitized them, and then restocked the whole thing. You can't blame them knowing Kelce is older, Mahomes is recovering, and the WRs face major questions."
3.) When the Chiefs went out and signed Kenneth Walker in free agency, what did Chiefs fans think about it? Did they like the signing or no?
"Yes, fans loved it and it had to happen. Isiah Pacheco was a shell of his former self after a fibula injury in 2024. Kareem Hunt is a short-yardage back and yet he led the team in rushing. The Chiefs have literally had the least threatening backfield in football in the last two seasons and maybe beyond that. Walker moves the meter and then some."
4.) The Chiefs defense lost a lot of talent this offseason, but what do you think was their biggest loss and why?
"Trent McDuffie. I know there are high hopes for Mansoor Delane, but the Chiefs traded a literal defensive pillar before he'd reached his prime. At a mercurial position like corner, McDuffie was an All-Pro with the versatility to play inside and out. I was dumbfounded by the move at the time."
5.) Do you believe (assuming that Patrick Mahomes returns to his old form), that the Chiefs will once again be championship contenders in 2026? Or do you believe that their roster still needs major improvement?
"Both? Missing the postseason isn't happening again, and all a team needs is a chance. So I'm not worried at all about that. But they have stocked up a few extra picks in a loaded 2027 draft, and even after dealing McDuffie for more selections, they still couldn't address every need. Wide receiver and defensive end are particularly thin or unproven. That said, the Chiefs two biggest needs were the same in 2023, 2024, and 2025: running backs and defensive tackle. They went all-in to address both of those with both depth and high-ceiling talent. That's going to make a difference."
