While the Buffalo Bills are coming back to action this week after getting Sunday off, other AFC teams are coming off big wins that puts even more pressure on the Bills moving forward. At 4-2, the Bills are in the mix with a wide open conference, more than it has ever been in recent memory.
Coming into this season, a lot of people were once again expecting the Bills to be the representative of the AFC in Santa Clara in February. As of right now, it’s hard to picture that because of how the Bills have performed lately, and how the rest of their conference competition has been performing.
The Bills are behind the Patriots in the AFC East, so that is a major challenge. But then you have teams like the Colts, Broncos, Steelers, Chargers, and even the Jaguars being competitive teams. Then you have a team like the Ravens who have been deeply affected by injuries and are sitting at 1-5. This season is not quite what most fans may have expected.
While we could talk about how the Bills are still in this and can still be the representatives from the AFC in the Super Bowl, their biggest challenge has come alive the last couple of weeks despite a slow start.
Kansas City Chiefs are showing the NFL that they are back (and that should scare Bills fans)
Jeffri Chadiha from NFL.com recently talked about how the Chiefs’ offense is “finally meeting expectations again” after a slow start this season where they were 0-2 at one point. Here's a bit on what Chadiha said about the Chiefs' offense:
"The offensive line is sturdier, for one thing. Even with the mysterious absence of rookie left tackle Josh Simmons over the last two games, the Chiefs are giving Mahomes more protection than he's had in a long time. Mahomes also finally has his full assortment of weapons together, as wide receiver Rashee Rice returned from a six-game suspension this week and second-year receiver Xavier Worthy has looked crisp since missing nearly three full games with a shoulder separation."Jeffri Chadiha, NFL.com
For as much as people might be talking about the different challenges the Bills might face from here on out, the only big challenge that the Bills have left to overcome is taking down the Chiefs when it matters. If both of these teams make the playoffs and meet one another, that’s what will be talked about the most with the Bills.
No matter how strong the Bills look on paper, four of their last five playoff exits have come from the Chiefs. Now that they are cleaning up their performance, it’s got to be trouble for the Bills and their fans. While teams like the Colts, Chargers, and even the Patriots look great now, teams like the Bills and the Chiefs have had playoff success. However, as we all know, the Bills have had major trouble bringing down the Chiefs.
There is still over half of the regular season left and anything can happen. However, right now, the Chiefs are correcting their mistakes and will be fighting to get the top seed back in the AFC and make the AFC playoffs run through Arrowhead, once again.
