Bills fan favorite proves why Buffalo is the place players should want to play for
By Brandon Ray
Bills fans will always know the rough times that they saw the Buffalo Bills go through. It was a revolving door at the quarterback position, head coaches were coming in and going out frequently, and they never established a winning culture. One of the closest times they came to having some sort of success was when Doug Marrone was the head coach. Then that culture was destroyed when he up-and-left the Bills at the end of the 2014 season.
Then the Bills went ahead and hired a big personality in Rex Ryan, in which that tenure was awful to where Ryan didn’t make it two full seasons as the head coach. Enter in Sean McDermott and the Bills have never been better. McDermott has established himself as the best head coach in franchise history since Marv Levy and part of the reason why is because he emphasizes a great culture.
Say what you want about the Bills and how they are having their challenges with the postseason, but no one can question the culture that they have established. They have a superstar quarterback who is beloved by the community of Buffalo, a roster that puts the team first above anything else, and a fanbase that is always at the game, home or away.
The Bills are a team that pending free agents should want to come to. They have success and they are well within their championship window. Just ask defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, who was asked by the media why he seems to always produce more as a member of the Bills than anywhere else, per Sal Capaccio:
Phillips went into detail about how within the building, there is a culture of as long as you "show up on time, play hard, and be respectful", it's very hard to not succeed in Buffalo. That's the kind of culture all players should want.
Buffalo Bills' culture is unmatched across the NFL
It’s very hard to point out teams outside of the Bills that have the unmatched culture like Buffalo does. Maybe Detroit has it now, but it wasn’t until recently. For the Bills, they’ve had more consistent stability and there are players that end up leaving the Bills who find their way back to the team due to the fact of the kind of culture they have.
Players like Jordan Phillips, Quinton Jefferson, Shaq Lawson, and even Mitch Trubisky have come back to Buffalo after going to another team. The Bills play great football and there is mutual respect within the building. As long as McDermott is leading the charge, the culture within the organization should never be questioned.
