Bills’ early dominance is being totally overlooked (and it shouldn’t be)

Buffalo is ranked too low in DVOA, with their undefeated record

Despite their 3-0 record and their incredible win on Sunday Night Football against the Ravens in Week 1, the Bills are being disrespected by the latest DVOA rankings.

According to FTNFantasy.com, Buffalo is eighth in the league in DVOA, with a success rate of 22.3%.

The last time Buffalo finished a season with a ranking as low as eighth was 2019, when they were ranked No. 14. Since then, they've been in the top four for DVOA every year.

Bills' dominance is being ignored early on

It might have something to do with the teams the Bills have defeated so far. Buffalo has wins over the Dolphins and Jets, ranked No. 28 and No. 24 respectively. Their win over the Ravens also does not look as impressive as it would have looked in previous years. Baltimore, usually DVOA darlings, are ranked No. 12 after being ranked No. 1 in 2023 and 2024 for the regular season.

However, it still feels low. The Bills are ranked behind teams like the Seahawks, Commanders, Rams, Lions, and Packers, all teams with a loss in their first three games. While DVOA does not take win-loss record into account, it is worth wondering how just how accurate it could be if it is underrating a team like Buffalo.

At least Buffalo is earning respect in power rankings. NFL.com ranks the Bills No. 2, behind the Super Bowl champion Eagles. In fact, it looks like nearly every major outlet has ranked the Bills behind the Eagles as the second-best team in football.

Obviously, it's very early. Whatever the power rankings and DVOA rankings say after Week 3 does not matter come January. The Bills have had great September's before. At the end of the day, it's winning in the postseason that counts the most.
