Week 2 in the NFL continues on today but the Buffalo Bills can sit back and relax as they already played on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. Buffalo improved to 2-0 after putting up another high-scoring game on offense in a short week in the first game of the new Highmark Stadium.

Now, the Bills and Bills Mafia can simply watch some football today without feeling stressed. They will be back in action next Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Chargers in Orchard Park.

In addition to not having to worry about anything today regarding the Bills, fans also got a great update about defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who was ruled inactive at the very last minute on Thursday after suffering a hip injury.

Bills avoid major injury news regarding DT Ed Oliver

According to Ian Rapoport on NFL GameDay, Oliver is listed as day-to-day with the hip injury he suffered in warmups. He wasn't on the injury report at all going into Thursday night, but then he hurt his hip and rather than trying to push through it, the Bills decided to sideline him which was the smart decision.

In addition to Oliver, wide receiver DJ Moore, who suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter, is also listed as day-to-day.

Even though the Bills have a rising star in Deone Walker, having Oliver with him in the trenches puts more stress on an offensive line because of the skillset that they each bring. Now, DeWayne Carter stepped in and helped with stopping the run and plugging up the middle, but provides that quickness that Carter doesn't have.

Ed Oliver injury update is great news (but there's no need to rush him back)

Since it's still so early in the season, the Bills are better off missing Oliver for another game if it means that he will be 100% ready to go in Week 4 for when the New England Patriots come to town. With the way the Bills' defense has performed the last two games, they are going to need to make sure that they have close full health with their best players.

Last season, Oliver only appeared in three games (which included the playoff matchup against the Denver Broncos) as he dealt with a foot injury after Week 1, and then suffered a bicep injury in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers.

If the Bills didn't have someone like Walker in the middle who is off to a fast start, then maybe we could sit here and say that Buffalo needs Oliver to be ready for Week 3 against the Chargers. Luckily, that isn't the case. Get Oliver ready for the long-haul of the season rather than an early Week 3 game against LA.
