It has been a successful offseason up to this point for Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills. Beane has heavily attacked the defensive side of the ball, especially on the defensive line and has also acquired help on offense for MVP quarterback Josh Allen with different wideouts as well as rotational running backs to pair with James Cook and Ray Davis.
Overall, Brandon Beane has done a fantastic job considering the challenging situation the Bills had with their salary cap coming into free agency. While they majorly improved in various areas, there is one area that has not been fixed whatsoever.
The Bills are super weak at cornerback as of right now. Outside of Christian Benford and Taron Johnson, Buffalo has a massive hole at corner. They traded away first-round bust Kaiir Elam to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for late round draft picks. Buffalo is going to have to address the corner position sooner rather than later.
Whether it be in free agency or the draft, Bills fans better be hoping for some secondary news. There is one familiar name that Bills fans know that could easily fix their weak spot at cornerback.
Should the Bills bring back CB Rasul Douglas?
Cornerback Rasul Douglas was traded to the Bills in the middle of the 2023 season and has been a solid secondary player for them ever since. Sure, he’s had his moments of being a liability, but not very often. Not only can he play great zone defense, but he is a fantastic run-support corner. He’s not afraid to lower his shoulder and make a play.
Douglas remains a free agent and with the Bills having just over $7 million in cap space (according to spotrac.com), maybe Buffalo should strongly consider seeing if Douglas would be willing to come back for atleast one more year, if not two. He knows the defense, he knows the culture, and he knows that the Bills are super close to making it to the Super Bowl.
Running it back with Douglas and Christian Benford as your starters would be the ideal scenario, and then Beane can draft corners for development for the future. Buffalo has done a great job at bringing help on their defensive line. Now it’s time to take care of the secondary. Go get Douglas and draft for development next month.
